This information is provided for understanding how our Suppliers will create XML files
The Motorola IPC Creator is a spreadsheet based tool for creating an IPC 1752A Homogeneous Material Declaration (Class D) in XML format. It's basic functions are to load an Motorola XML request header, enter and edit material content information and generate an output XML file suitable for submission to Motorola.
The IPC Creator must be run on Microsoft Excel version 2003 Professional SP3 or later.
Run the Motorola IPC Creator spreadsheet application - when the Creator tool is first opened, you must accept the disclaimer:
Information is added to the IPC Homogeneous Material Declaration tab, which uses the data to generate the IPC File.
Motorola Requestor Information - These fields are automatically populated when an XML Request Header is loaded - Do Not Modify these fields
|
Do not Modify these fields
|
Supplier Information - These fields are populated automatically when an XML Request Header is loaded
|
You may edit these fields as necessary, however If any of these fields are incorrect, please notify Motorola so corrections can be applied in the system
|
Requestor Company - This field shall be populated automatically when an XML Request Header is loaded with Motorola Mobility
Part Usage - This field shall be populated automatically with MD when an XML Request Header is loaded.
|
When loading an XML Header or File, Part Usage will be automatically assigned. If it is not, please assign by typing MD into the field
|
Load XML Header Button - Opens a Windows File Open dialog box, allowing the user to navigate to and select a previously stored Header file to load
Load XML File Button - Opens a Windows File Open dialog box, allowing the user to load an existing XML file for modification if desired
|
This will only load 1752A class D compatible XML files
|
Response Date - Enter the date of this submittal using a normal date formatted entry (MM/DD/YYYY)
Generate Declaration - Opens a Windows file Save-As dialog box and allows the user to navigate to an appropriate folder for storing the declaration. Note that the file name is already present and should not be altered. Altering the file name may result in processing delays
Supplier Acceptance - Use the drop down list to select Accepted or Not Accepted
|
If this field is not equal to Accepted the XML file will not be generated
|
Legal Declaration - Standard IPC legal text for a material content declaration. This may not be edited
Part and Material Area - Motorola part number, description and Supplier part number will be populated automatically from the header
All other fields must be completed as part of the material declaration process described below
Run Error Check - Checks the entered data for various errors prior to generation of an XML file. See error messages and guidance below
The Motorola request for environmental data email contains a Zip file attachment. This file contains one or more IPC 1752A XML header files depending on how many parts data is being requested for. Save these XML file(s) to a suitable folder on your computer
Press the Load XML File button (F above), and use the File Open dialog, navigate to and select the file for opening. The file can be modified as necessary
|
This will only load 1752A class D compatible XML files
|
Press the Load XML Header button (E above), and use the File Open dialog, navigate to and select the file for opening. After successfully loading the Header, the screen should appear as follows:
Complete the pink highlighted fields. If any supplier fields are highlighted enter correct information in those cells as well
|
The Contact Name should reflect the name of the person filling in the W18 report, please modify as necessary The Supplier Information must not be changed |
Verify that the Motorola item number, Supplier part number, Supplier Company ID and Supplier Company Name are correct
|
If any of these do not match, contact Motorola to have these corrected and a new request will be sent. Do not change these fields as they must match exactly the values in the system. Changes to these fields will result in an automatic rejection of the file |
The Product Units are defaulted to Each which is the most common. This may be changed by using the drop down list for that cell
Fill in the Supplier Part Description
Fill in the Supplier Part Mass amount and using the drop down list select the appropriate Mass Units (g, mg, ug, kg)
There are four use cases described below for entering material data: Components and Simple Declarations, Complex Items, Motorola BOM Controlled Parts and ODM Parts
Row 11 must contain the Motorola and Supplier part information. No other fields should be used for that row.
For all other rows, only one section type may be used in any row. For example, if adding subparts then only the subpart section must contain data, for materials, only the material section, etc.
The order of entry for the sections is as follows (note, if subparts are not used, the first material will follow the product row):
Product/Supplier section
Supplier subpart Section (if used)
Material Section
Substance section
The sum of all substances in a material must be between 99 and 100%
The sum of all material weight must equal the subpart weight (if used) or the Product weight (if subparts are not used)
The sum of all subpart weights (if used) must equal the product weight
|
For items 4, 5 and 6, there is a small tolerance allowed in the error checking. However it is recommended that exact values be used to reduce chances or rejection due to any of these cases |
Duplicate subpart names are not allowed in a product
Duplicate Material names are not allowed in a subpart (if used) or a product (if subparts are not used)
Duplicate CAS#'s are not allowed in any one material. This includes the use of SYSTEM as a CAS#'s
Duplicate material names ARE allowed in different subparts and duplicate CAS#'s ARE allowed in different materials
Click the Generate Declaration button ( G above). A number of error checks will be performed, and notification provided if required fields are missing data or contain incorrect data type. If all error checks passed, the following dialog box will be displayed:
If supporting documentation is being sent in addition to the declaration press Yes otherwise press No. This adds text to the filename to allow Motorola to search for appropriate documents in the supporting documents email box
A Windows File Save-As dialog box will be displayed allowing navigation to an appropriate folder for saving and click Save
|
Do not change the file name. It is constructed to allow efficient processing of incoming files and changes may result in processing delays or being ignored by the system |
Additional error checks will be performed for the sum of substance percentage, sum of material weights and sum of subpart weight. If an error is displayed, see below for guidance on resolution. If all error checks pass then the following message box will be displayed indicating completion and reminders for email submittal of declaration and supporting documents:
After successful completion of an IPC XML declaration, please email the declaration to the automated processing email address:
WPAsubmittal@lenovo.com
If supporting documents are required ( for > 10% undeclared materials, reports, MSDS's etc.) or for general correspondence, please email these to the EDM you normally correspond with, or if unsure use: Environmentaldata@motorola.com
To avoid delays in processing include Document_Mfg name_Motorola item number in the email subject when sending supporting documents
|
Only valid XML declarations or zipped declarations will be processed by the WPAsubmittal email box. All other files will be ignored. Please be sure to use the appropriate mail addresses |
Material name - For materials needing supporting documents, the material name must include below information:
MSDS,IP form: raw material manufacturer name_material trade name
Test Report: EN1811_MIN; ROHS_MIN, etc
Waiver email: Waiver_MIN

For parts with same material criteria, one test report can cover all parts. Test reports need only be submitted one time. For subsequent similar part submissions, simply note the test report name and tested part number in the material name
IP forms and MSDS need only be submitted one time for a specific material
In order to allow the most editing flexibility in the tool most cut and paste functionality is available for use. However, it is highly recommended that when pasting into the sheet only Paste-Special-Values is used to preserve proper formatting.
If cell formatting gets changed by drag-drop or pasting from other sheets it may be restored by selecting an undamaged row and using the format painter to repaint the impacted rows. This will restore formatting while not changing the data already entered.
To save file space The sheet comes with only 200 rows formatted for use. To add more rows select a row in the formatted area and insert as many new rows as required. These new rows will have the same drop downs and formatting as the ones above it.
While there are a number of checks for valid CAS#'s, sum of weight etc., there are no checks for duplicate material names, subpart names or CAS#'s. Please review prior to submittal.
Overlapping sections will usually result in weight sum errors. Each of the four sections (Motorola/Supplier part, subpart, material and substance) must be on separate rows and constructed in the correct order as shown in the examples.
Row 11 must contain the Motorola Item and Supplier Part information. No other fields on the row should be filled in
Error checks are performed each time a file is generated. It may also be run at any time by pressing the Run Error Check button (K above). Note if this is run before completion of material data there will always be errors reported however, it is still useful while creating large declaration to check data that has already been entered
